Home improvements made nice and easy

At first blush, most of the merchandise sold by Rui Building Supply is similar to what you might find in a typical “big box” home improvement store.

Rui’s showroom, located on Sand Island Access Road, is bursting with an assortment of furnishings, fixtures and fittings that any big box store might carry. But Rui sets itself apart with an unbeatable combination of quality cabinetry and fixtures at affordable prices — and a friendly, low-pressure, efficient staff of experts who can help you determine exactly what your space needs.

There’s practically everything you might want for your bathroom: etched glass shower doors, basins in sparkling porcelain and blue glass, and striking vanities in contemporary and vintage styles. Rui even carries fixtures, offering a selection of chrome and bronze towel racks, bars and rings, toilet paper holders and soap dispensaries.

An eye-catching display showcases a couple of dozen faucets, ranging from sleek and simple to modern minimalist to heavy-duty industrial. There’s even an elaborate swan faucet for the ultimate baroque fantasy powder room.

Those who are outfitting kitchens will find plenty here, as well. Look for stainless steel and farmhouse sinks in a variety of configurations and styles, and a fine selection of beautiful granite countertops in a couple of dozen different colors.

But perhaps most impressive of all are Rui’s kitchen cabinets. “They’re solid wood and really good quality,” said Jon Xie, manager of Rui Building Supply. “You won’t be able to find anything else, anywhere, with this kind of quality.” Handsomely sturdy, many of solid oak with magnetic latches in a variety of lovely shades, the cabinets are sold for hugely discounted prices, some as low as $30 each.

“We aim for high quality, because the majority of the things we display in our showroom are sold to clients on the construction side,” Xie explained, referring to the contracting operations of Rui, run by his father, Xiao Rui “Ray” Xie, for whom Rui is named. “Most of kitchen and bathroom furnishings and fittings in their houses come from our showroom. Because it’s good quality, we always get returning customers and referrals.”

This month, Rui has begun offering a new product: engineered vinyl planks. “We have large quantities of them in a few different styles,” Xie said. Echoing the warmth of classic wood flooring, vinyl planks are water resistant, great for bathrooms and kitchens, and priced affordably by Rui Building Supply.
