All in the ohana

For more than 40 years, HK Construction has kept local families in mind as the fourth-generation family business incorporates quality products and the talents of experienced designers and builders throughout each project. As proof of the company’s stellar work over the past four-plus decades, HK Construction was selected this month as one of the Islands’ top construction companies via the Star-Advertiser‘s “Hawaii’s Best” People’s Choice Awards.

Local residents have become accustomed to Hawaii’s unique ohana culture in which family members care for young and elderly relatives throughout multi-generational households. However, while families remain close and grow as a unit, the arrangement can also create added stress and strain relationships if a home is not comfortable for all involved.

To assist homeowners with making these arrangements livable and feasible, HK Construction builds and renovates homes for customers looking to better utilize interior space to accommodate growing families.

The ohana-centric projects encompass children moving back home with kids of their own and focus on allowing older residents to “age in place” by creating safe environments for the elderly without sacrificing their freedom or restricting mobility.

An important first step in learning about the home building process and determining what can be done to enhance one’s home is to attend one of HK Construction’s home building seminars. Seminars will be held on July 19 at Pearl Country Club and July 21 at Ward Warehouse, Kakaako Room at 6:30 p.m. A third session will take place on July 22 at 11 a.m. at the American Financial Services Center in Kahala. Questions will be answered and interested parties may also set up a free on-site assessment.
