A lasting home for all the ohana

As a design-build company, HK Construction is able to take a customer’s concept and turn that idea into an enjoyable living space crafted to last for generations to come.

For more than 40 years, HK Construction has kept local families in mind as the fourth-generation family business incorporates quality products and the talents of experienced designers and builders throughout each project. Potential and existing customers can learn more about what HK Construction has to offer, including viewing testimonials and examples of recent projects, via the company’s revamped website at hkchawaii.com.

An important first step in learning about the home building process and determining what can be done to enhance one’s existing home is to attend one of HK Construction’s seminars.

HK Construction is slated to hold three seminars this month (check website for upto-date seminar information): Wednesday, May 17, 6-8 p.m. at Pearl Country Club; Thursday, May 18, 6-8 p.m. at the Neal Blaisdell Center; and Saturday, May 20, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the American Savings Financial Services Center in Kahala. Questions will be answered at that time and those interested may also set up a free on-site assessment.

Local residents have become accustomed to Hawaii’s unique ohana culture in which family members care for young and elderly relatives throughout multi-generational households. However, while families remain close and grow as unit, the arrangement can also create added stress and strain relationships if a home is not comfortable for all involved. To assist homeowners with making these arrangements livable and feasible, HK Construction builds and renovates homes for customers looking to better utilize interior space to accommodate growing families.

The aforementioned ohana-centric projects encompass children moving back home with kids of their own as well as focus on allowing older residents to “age in place” by creating safe environments for the elderly without sacrificing their freedom or restricting mobility. During a recent project, HK Construction worked with a family composed of four generations — including children, their parents, an aunty as well as grandparents — who all live under the same roof and needed to revamp the home to meet their unique needs.

From concept to completion as your partner throughout the process, HK Construction will provide the design and functionality that best suits one’s lifestyle and property needs. Call 841-1800 or 220-4714 to get more information and to reserve a spot for upcoming seminars.
