Kaimuki has become one of Honolulu’s most sought after neighborhoods, primarily predicated on its convenience and diversity of home styles. Options for shopping and dining are numerous. Downtown Kaimuki offers virtually every type of cuisine, and Kahala Mall is just up the highway. Because of the wide selection of public and private schools, Kaimuki is favored as a family neighborhood.

Homeworks Construction has been the contractor of choice for hundreds of Kaimuki families who have remodeled or built new in this large neighborhood over the years. Many are second and even third generation residents of a house that has outlived its service to the family. Moving to another location or buying outside the area is generally not the first choice, because Kaimuki suits their lifestyle.

“We have recently completed a rebuild in an old Kaimuki neighborhood that has been going through a renaissance,” said Homeworks sales coordinator Kim Green. “After demolishing the existing 1940s single-level house on the 7,200-square-foot lot, we were able to maximize use of the property with a two-story design.

“The owner liked the neighborhood and opted to replace the old family home with a brand, new custom home built to their specifications on the site. Where they previously had a living area of only 1,200 square feet, they now have 1,500 square feet under roof, plus a 716-square-foot garage built to accommodate an upstairs unit at a later date.

“On the first floor are a great room that includes a main living and dining area open to the kitchen, plus two bedrooms and two baths. Upstairs are two more bedrooms, a bath, and a wet bar, which will serve to accommodate visiting family members. Between the garage and the house is a 6-by-20-square-foot laundry and workshop, which can be accessed from the house, the garage, and the yard. The new home is very practical and functional and perfectly suits the lifestyle and future needs of the family.”
