Most everyone, to one degree or another, has a constant desire to improve or add interest to their lives: trying new products, buying new clothes, trying a new exercise or popping a new vitamin. This same desire motivates people to not just have basic shelter, but to try to make their homes as functional and enjoyable as possible.

Kahala Pacific Floors is Hawaii’s go-to company for beautiful new flooring. Boasting a beautiful 3,000-square-foot showroom, this wholesaler/retailer features stone and tile, vinyl, laminates, carpeting and wood. The company is a dealer of such quality lines as Daltile, Mohawk, Shaw and Metroflor. However, it is first and foremost a manufacturer and direct importer of beautiful wood flooring. The flagship product, the Kahala Floors line of engineered wood, is arguably Hawaii’s all-time best-selling wood flooring brand.

A locally owned family business, company president Shirley Pai Hilton is a former CPA who always longed to have accounting be a backdrop for a much more exciting career. About a decade ago, she convinced her husband, Joe, and her mother, Sook Ja, to be her business partners (along with her little daughter, Sophia, of course), and she hasn’t looked back since. She has been too busy, and has gone as far as to personally become a licensed flooring installer in order to provide her customers with a complete, quality experience.

While it is a literally back-breaking and competitive business, Hilton is happy that she has found something to be so passionate about. “We truly provide a quality product and excellent service, which actually improves people’s lives. Try a fresh coat of paint and new flooring, and you will feel like you can conquer the world. And for many, we even resolve nagging health issues such as allergies from their old carpet,” said Hilton.

Since entering the business, Hilton has prided herself on learning as much as she can about flooring, and makes sure that her key staff — Jaymie, Paulette, Tanu, Barb and Jo-Lin — are well-equipped with product and installation knowledge. Hilton knows that the key to making a good decision is information and she shares her expertise with homeowners every month at her Wood and Stone Flooring 101 seminar.

“I can’t tell you how heartwarming it is when so many people come up to me after the presentation to let me know how much they enjoyed it and that they learned so much. It’s very exciting!” said Hilton.

She invites you to Kahala Pacific Floors’ next 90-minute session, which will be held Saturday, March 15 at 10 a.m. at the company showroom, located at 926 Kohou St. Seating is limited, so call 847-7711 for a reservation.
