With interest rates remaining low into 2014, including rates for loans on new construction, a custom-built home in the new year could become an achievable goal. Rates and terms on home equity lines of credit to finance remodeling projects also remain favorable.

“The best way to get started with planning a new custom home, or improvements to an existing home, is to meet with an experienced, licensed builder to discuss the project you have in mind,” said Homeworks Construction project coordinator Kim Green. “There is no charge for an initial consultation, either at the Homeworks office or at the job site.

“Many of our clients have found that our free monthly ‘Build New Or ReDo’ seminars provided them with the information and inspiration they needed to take initial steps in the planning process. Over the years we’ve completed hundreds of projects, ranging from budget to upscale, so chances are that more than a few of the homes in our portfolio will come close to what a prospective client envisions.”

Green noted that Homeworks provides all design and construction services in-house, and is consequently able to quote a comprehensive price once the parameters of the job are established. “All aspects of the building process are discussed at the seminars, and to some extent the attendees can direct the flow of information. Once the speakers, which include Homeworks designers and builders and guests who vary monthly, make their presentation, attendees can take advantage of the opportunity for a one-on-one conference.”

Green said seminars will be held at the Homeworks showroom every month in 2014 starting in February, generally on the first Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. A schedule can be obtained by contacting Kim Green at 955-2777. The showroom is located on the first floor of the Homeworks Building at 2111 South Beretania St. Refreshments are served, seating is provided and parking is free in the Homeworks parking lot at the rear of the building.

Upcoming seminars will also be announced in the Homeworks Build New Or ReDo Radio Show, broadcast Saturdays from 9 to 10 a.m. on KHVH Radio AM830 and hosted by Homeworks CEO Jim Byxbee and Rick Hamada (shown in photo from left). Listeners are welcome to call in with questions (521-8383).
